Nearsoft Honored as Top Great Place to Work 2010Posted by Matt Perez on 05/24/2010 in workplace democracy , Great Place to Work , culture |
For the third year in a row, Nearsoft has ranked among the TOP 20 Great Places to Work in Mexico. We are honored (and so very stoked!). We've ranked in the TOP tier ever since we first applied for this award, three years ago. Here's our secret sauce.
Our "secret" sauce is an open secret: we just aim to create a culture that people want to be part of and an environment where people want to be. And we (all) work hard at improving and innovating on it every day.
Like Fortune's "Best Companies to Work For"
We first entered the Great Place to Work program in
2008. We didn't have a very clear idea of what to expect, but it seemed like a good way to benchmark Nearsoft against the "big guns" and get good feedback from everybody in the company.
One big attraction for us was that The Great Place to Work Institute are the same people who created and manage Fortune's "Best Companies to Work For" program. Obviously, they 1) have been doing this for a while and 2) know what they're doing when it comes to benchmarking.
When the results came back, Nearsoft was #8 in the list of companies with 50 to 500 employees. To say that we were surprised would be an understatement.
On top of that the information we got from the program was worth its money in gold. Even though we all talk to each other every day, it was still surprising to see what people thought was going well and what they thought needed improvement. In any case, it gave us a prioritized list of issues to address to make the place even better.
And Now We Had to Deliver
Being named as one of the TOP 10 Great Place to Work heightened expectations. We were all eager to get to the next level but we, honestly, were not ready to deliver on every gap. We did not have the resources to do it all at once.
So, as with everything else, we took the path of transparency. Transparency helps to provide certainty in an uncertaint environment. We opened up the results to the whole company and, together, we picked the three most important things to focus on.
2009
The following year, we entered again. This time, however, we had a reputation to uphold. If we could make it to the top two years in a row, that'd be sooo sweet.
But… for 2009 they changed the categories and that Nearsoft was going to be included in the "TI & Telecom" category. This includes everybody in technology, big, medium and small. Once we realized that we were going up against the likes of IBM, HP, SAS, etc., we assumed that we'd be lucky to make it to the top 100.
And that's why we were even more suprised when we were ranked #17 among the TOP 20 technology companies in IT and Telecom. We could not believe it, but here were all these world-class companies Nokia, SAS, HP, Dell, Symantec, SAP and… Nearsoft (who?). What an honor! (and excitement).
2010
So now the pressure was really on. The 2008 might have been beginner's luck. In 2009 it might have been luck again and the excitement of a young, growing company. In 2010 we were going to find out if this was a repeatable achievement or just a fluke.
Three days ago we got our answer: Nearsoft was, again, ranked among the TOP 20 Great Places to Work in Mexico in the IT & Telecom category. Number 16, to be exact, ahead of Oracle and HP.
Not an Accident
This is a reflection of our goal to make Nearsoft the best place possible for its employees. From the office environment to the relationship among employees and the clients we engage with.
We are not perfect, but we'll keep getting better.
