4 + 1 Things to Remember about Startup Drinks MontrealPosted by Victor Velasquez on 05/27/2010 in startups , Open Source , Montreal , engineering culture |
Last Wednesdays of every month are a great opportunity for a get together with entrepreneurs and software developers of Montreal and beyond. Startup Drinks took place at Brutopia, which is the premiere brewpub in downtown Montreal, located on Crescent Street, were you can find all sorts of irish pubs and international restaurants.
So.. what else about Startup Drinks? I know sometimes, we don't like long, long stories. So this is a short summary of what happened at the meet-up. Make sure you click on the pictures so you have a chance to view the larger versions.
1. I will REMEMBER people's enthusiasm while explaining their web apps, mobile apps or any other new born baby. I also had the opportunity to explain how we provide all the ressources needed to make companies give birth properly :)

I will REMEMBER some of the entrepreneurial stories that I listened to while drinking a nice glass of beer, like the one of Adriano Ferrari and his web-based application Habit Shaper that turns whatever your personal goals are into small easy-steps. We exchanged some information and we ended up having a discussion about the social aspect of this interesting app. |
3. I will REMEMBER the opportunity to speak to members of the open source community of Canada and some folks that were planning to attend Make Web Not War (May 27th) event as speakers, like Michael Nussbacher, who is the Social Media Director of SafeKidZone.
![]() | 4. I will REMEMBER rediscovering that a networking session doesn't have to be formal. I think that good relationships have more probabilities to be born, when the atmosphere is more relaxed and laid back. So cheers for that! |
Ohh and what about the + 1 Thing To Remember? I was not going to forget this one:
When I was at this event, I had the chance to meet another Director of Social Media or Community Manger, just like me. We talk about some of the social media practices. But what was interesting, was the fact that we were not only sharing the same role for our companies, but also a very similar situation in terms of location.
We found out that we were both part of a Dispersed Work Team. The companies we work for are in California. But, we do our work, without any problem, from Canada. It is so interesting how this generation of startups is learning how to use a dispersed work team. I think this could be the subject for another post.
